Despite DeMarcus Cousins' devastating knee injury, the Los Angeles Lakers don't want nor expect to use Anthony Davis in long stretches at center this season, a team official told NBA TV's Jared Greenberg.

Cousins' agent confirmed Thursday that the big man suffered a torn ACL in private workouts this week and is likely out for the season.

Davis' size and dominance might make him a logical starter at the five, but he's on record saying he prefers playing power forward.

"I like playing the four, I'm not even going to sugarcoat it," Davis said at his Lakers introductory news conference last month. "I don't really like playing the five. But if it comes down to it ... I'll play the five."

Given his recent injury history even before his torn ACL, Cousins wasn't anticipated to absorb 35 minutes a night at center. However, his loss currently leaves the Lakers with only JaVale McGee as a true pivot. Meanwhile, Kyle Kuzma played 83 percent of his minutes at the four last season, according to Basketball Reference.
