Garland: I'm the best guard in the draft

Vanderbilt's Darius Garland was listed as the best point guard prospect before suffering a season-ending meniscus injury just five games into his 2018-19 freshman campaign.

Though there's little certainty at the top of the draft beyond Murray State's Ja Morant and Duke's duo of Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett, Garland remains confident he'll be among the best in the class,

"I humbly say this, I think I'm the best (guard) in the draft," Garland told ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "I mean, I think I can do everything that an NBA team wants me to do."

"The game is going toward a pick-and-roll and a scoring point guard situation," he added. "So, I think I can do both of those really well. Just choose my spots on the floor and be able to show off the dribble."

Garland started this past season off well, averaging 19.8 points per game and going 11-of-23 from three, leading the Commodores to a 4-0 start. He's one of the best shooters in the draft, which should translate well at the next level and help him become a score-first point guard.

"I think 10 years ago, everything was pass-first point guards, and now it's evolved into more scoring guards," Garland said. "I also distribute the ball, as well. So, I think I came around at the right time."

One of the biggest knocks on Garland has been his inability to get his teammates involved. However, with better spacing in the NBA and his crafty ball-handling, the Tennessee native should be able to resolve those issues.
