The Washington Wizards traded Markieff Morris to the New Orleans Pelicans for Wesley Johnson on Wednesday, the team announced.

Washington will also send a 2023 second-round pick to the Pelicans.

The move appears to have been consummated purely for cap purposes, with the Wizards exchanging Morris' $8.6 million this season for Johnson's $6.1 million. That will bring Washington under the luxury tax threshold. Both contracts expire at season's end.

News of the trade came less than four hours after the Wizards dealt Otto Porter Jr. to the Chicago Bulls.
