The Phoenix Suns acquired guards Tyler Johnson and Wayne Ellington from the Miami Heat on Wednesday in exchange for Ryan Anderson, the teams announced.

However, Ellington's agent, Mark Bartelstein, is working with the Suns to have the guard waived, which would allow him to join a playoff contender, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Ellington is a career 38 percent 3-point shooter.

From Miami's perspective, the trade should help clear salary cap space and lower its luxury tax bill from $9.7 million to $1.7 million, Wojnarowski adds.

Anderson's contract is only partially guaranteed for $15.6 million next season. Johnson, on the other hand, has a player option for 2019-20 at $19.2 million.
