The Houston Rockets have assigned point guard Brandon Knight to their G League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, with whom he'll play Friday in a rehab assignment, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Knight last appeared in an NBA game on Feb. 15, 2017, before sitting out the entire 2017-18 campaign with an ACL tear in his left knee.

The Rockets inherited Knight's injury troubles when they acquired him from the Phoenix Suns in August for sharpshooter Ryan Anderson, who started 50 games for Houston last season.

A healthy Knight could add a scoring punch as a combo guard for the Rockets, who have been depleted at point guard with Chris Paul missing the last three games with a lingering hamstring issue. Current backup Michael Carter-Williams has been ineffective and pushed out of the rotation, averaging under 10 minutes per contest.

Knight averaged 19.6 points and 5.1 assists for the Suns during the 2015-16 season.
