New Orleans Pelicans point guard Elfrid Payton will undergo surgery to repair a broken left pinky he injured Friday in a 129-124 victory over the New York Knicks, the team announced.

A timetable for Payton's return will be determined after his procedure.

The 24-year-old missed New Orleans' previous nine outings with a right ankle sprain.

He grabbed one rebound and recorded one steal in eight scoreless minutes of action against New York prior to exiting the game.

Working under a one-year contract he inked with New Orleans last summer, Payton has averaged 9.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists on 47.1 percent shooting across six outings this season.
