Iverson: 'No way Melo should retire'

There's no telling what lies ahead in the near future for Carmelo Anthony, but former teammate Allen Iverson believes there's still a place for him in the NBA.

"No way Melo should retire. I definitely think he should keep going. He got a lot left in the tank, man. It’s just got to be the right situation," Iverson told Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

The Hall of Famer was acquired by the Denver Nuggets in 2006 and played alongside Anthony until 2009. The two remain close friends.

"It hurts because I love Melo and care about him as a person before all this basketball hoopla," Iverson said.

Anthony is far from the player he was in his heyday. Last season, the 10-time All-Star averaged career lows in points and field goal percentage during his lone year with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Earlier this week, the Houston Rockets parted ways with Anthony. The 34-year-old played in 10 games averaging 13.4 points and 40.5 percent shooting from the field.

"He's going to find his way to adapt to the game and the best spot," Iverson said.

"I believe in him and I know he's strong enough. He has a strong foundation behind him as far as his family and friends. I really think he'll be all right. I'm in Melo's corner all the way."
