Watch: Rondo passes on point-blank shot in dying seconds of 4th quarter

Rajon Rondo passed on an open-look under the rim with the Los Angeles Lakers down 108-105 in the dying seconds of their matchup against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night.

Instead of going for an easy layup after a pass from LeBron James with 13 seconds left, Rondo looked for a teammate. The point guard eventually passed the ball out of the paint, leading to James forcing a 3-point attempt, which he missed with just over five seconds left.

The Lakers weren't able to overcome the blunder, with the Spurs eventually coming away with a 110-106 victory.

Rondo's reasoning for passing out was because the Lakers didn't have any timeouts, so he felt they were better off going for a 3-pointer to tie the score instead of getting the two points and fouling San Antonio, according to The Athletic's Bill Oram.

With the loss, the Lakers fall to 2-4, making it the second time they've dropped a close game to the Spurs this season.
