Charlotte Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist posted an unusually low plus-minus number in Monday's 108-94 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Kidd-Gilchrist was a team-low minus-40 in 29 minutes played, while the Hornets as a team were plus-26 in the 19 minutes he spent on the bench.

The statistic requires some context. Charlotte's entire starting unit finished in the negative, while rookie Dwayne Bacon led the team off the bench at plus-27. Joel Embiid came it at minus-9 for the Sixers, while fellow Philly starter Dario Saric finished at plus-33.

Minus-40 is low, but Kidd-Gilchrist is not in bad company. LeBron James registered the worst single-game plus-minus of his career in January with a minus-39 in a loss to the Timberwolves. At the other end of the spectrum, Luc Mbah a Moute recorded the best plus-minus ever in an NBA game in November, with a plus-57 against the Denver Nuggets.

In any case, Monday was a career-low for Kidd-Gilchrist. His previous worst plus-minus was a minus-32 on Nov. 26, 2012.
