The relationship between LeBron James and Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman is still a work in progress.

In the weeks leading up to the trade deadline, James questioned Altman's absence as the team was struggling through a difficult month, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

The contrast between Altman's approach and that of his predecessor David Griffin was not lost on James. The former Bulls GM and James were in daily contact over their last three seasons together, but the team didn't renew the Griffin's contract last summer.

As it turns out, Altman had his own business to attend to. His newborn was dealing with health complications, and he needed to prepare for the draft with a diligence that Griffin never quite had to since he didn't have two first-round picks to tend to.

Altman eventually spoke to James shortly before the trade deadline to inform him of Cleveland's plans, before pulling off a wild flurry of transactions that reshaped the team. Those moves appeased James, who said Altman did, "a heck of a job."
