Suns tab Jay Triano as interim head coach
The Phoenix Suns have selected Jay Triano to take over as the interim head coach following the firing of Earl Watson.
The team shook up the coaching staff on the heels of the worst start in NBA history, posting a minus-92 point differential over three losses.
Triano, 59, was hired as an associate coach with the team ahead of last season, and earned the nod over assistant coaches Tyrone Corbin and Nate Bjorkgren.
The team also dismissed three members of Watson's staff, including Bjorkgren, and player development coaches Mehmet Okur and Jason Fraser, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Triano previously served as an assistant coach with the Portland Trail Blazers and Toronto Raptors. He took over as Toronto's head coach for almost three years after Sam Mitchell was canned, and led the club to a 87-142 record (.380) from 2008-11.
The Canuck is also the head coach of the Canadian senior men's basketball team, and acted as an assistant coach for USA Basketball.
He'll try to lead the Suns to their first victory Monday night against the Sacramento Kings.
