Tony Parker expects to return from leg injury 2 months ahead of schedule

Tony Parker could return much sooner than expected.

The San Antonio Spurs point guard was cleared by team doctors to participate in training camp, which begins Tuesday.

Parker, 35, suffered a torn quadriceps tendon during the Western Conference semifinals, which ended his playoff run and was slated to sideline him until January.

However, his MRI pleased the physicians to the point they cleared the six-time All-Star for on-court activity.

"It looked very good," Parker said, according to ESPN's Michael C. Wright. "So they cleared me. But it's still going to be like another, I think, two months to get back in shape and getting my leg stronger."

He won't be rushed back to the court, as head coach Gregg Popovich typically errs on the side of caution with player injuries. Parker's aiming to return before the end of November.

The Frenchman averaged 10.1 points, 4.5 assists, and 1.8 rebounds in 25.2 minutes per game last season for the Spurs, who finished No. 2 in the West.
