Report: Lakers met with Ian Clark, but no offer made

The Los Angeles Lakers have a fallback plan in case the chase for Derrick Rose doesn't pan out.

The Lakers held a 45-minute meeting with unrestricted free agent guard Ian Clark on Thursday, a league source told Mark Medina of the OC Register. The franchise has apparently expressed its interest in Clark in recent weeks as well.

No official offer was made, Medina reports, likely because the Lakers are also chasing other point-guard targets that might be higher on their wish list.

Clark reportedly met with a familiar face: Lakers coach and former Golden State Warriors assistant Luke Walton, who coached Clark in the 2015-16 season.

The 26-year-old Clark obviously lacks Rose's pedigree, but he might be a better fit for what the Lakers need. Clark is a consistent outside shooter that hit 37.4 percent from deep last season, can play both guard positions, and has experience playing in a secondary role.

Los Angeles is looking for a veteran guard to steady the ship in Lonzo Ball's rookie season.
