The Orlando Magic officially hired former Toronto Raptors general manager Jeff Weltman as their new president of basketball operations Tuesday.

Weltman joined the Raptors organization as vice president of basketball operations in 2013 before being promoted to GM last September.

"Jeff Weltman brings tremendous experience and a team-first approach to our president of basketball operations position," Magic CEO Alex Martins said in a statement. "Jeff is a strategic thinker and strong leader, has great relationships in the industry, and will bring a collaborative approach to our basketball operations leadership."

The 52-year-old will be tasked with turning around a Magic team that's failed to reach the postseason since 2012, going 123-278 during that span.

The Raptors have yet to announce a replacement for Weltman. They're entering a critical offseason with Kyle Lowry, Serge Ibaka, P.J. Tucker, and Patrick Patterson all set to hit free agency.
