Portugal and Switzerland will contest the first-ever Nations League semifinal on June 5, before the Netherlands faces England in the second knockout fixture a day later.

The third-place match and final will both take place June 9.

Portugal will host the mini-tournament after the club season ends, beginning with its do-or-die matchup in Porto. The country advanced to the final stage without help from Cristiano Ronaldo, who was left off the national team while acclimating to life at Juventus.

Switzerland's the most surprising entry of the four, emerging as the victor out of a group that included World Cup semifinalist Belgium.

Meanwhile, the Dutch beat both France and Germany to claim a berth and initiate talk of a revival under Ronald Koeman. And finally, semifinal foe England needed a 2-1 comeback victory over Croatia to seal first place in Group 4 of Nations League A.

The countries will now meet in an official competition for the first time since Euro 96.

The mini-tournament, however, has no bearing on the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.
