Cejudo doubts he'll return to MMA: 'I talked too much shit'

When it comes to a return to mixed martial arts, Henry Cejudo thinks he's shot himself in the foot.

Cejudo, the former UFC bantamweight and flyweight champion who retired in 2020, has been vocal about wanting to be compensated more if he were to come back to the sport.

Ultimately, Cejudo believes his actions have landed him on UFC president Dana White's bad side, making it less likely the promotion will pay him what he wants.

"I think the way that things are going, I think I talked too much shit," Cejudo told MMA Junkie's Danny Segura. "I think I picked on Dana a little too much.

"He's just not going to pay me. I've accepted that. This is why I'm able to throw out the kitchen sink from now on, because it's never going to change. ... It sucks, but that's just the way it is."

One of the only fights Cejudo has said he'd come back for is a featherweight title shot against Alexander Volkanovski. White has shot down the matchup, as Cejudo has never competed at 145 pounds. Cejudo, though, has said he thinks White is interested in the Volkanovski fight but "wants to pay me peanuts in comparison to what I really deserve."

Cejudo will go down as one of the best fighters in the lighter weight classes in UFC history. He stunned Demetrious Johnson to win the flyweight title in 2018 and then captured the bantamweight belt in 2019, defending both before walking away.
