Report: Whittaker expected to take on Vettori at UFC 275
A fight between middleweight contenders Robert Whittaker and Marvin Vettori is in the works for UFC 275 on June 11, MMA Fighting reports.
Whittaker is coming off a second loss to current champion Israel Adesanya in February. Adesanya won via unanimous decision after initially knocking out Whittaker to claim the belt in 2019.
The former middleweight titleholder is otherwise undefeated at 185 pounds. He beat Darren Till, Jared Cannonier, and Kelvin Gastelum to earn a rematch with Adesanya.
Meanwhile, Vettori is attempting to earn a third fight with Adesanya after losing his first title challenge by unanimous decision last June. Adesanya also won in 2018 when they were both up-and-coming prospects.
Vettori bounced back from the loss to Adesanya by earning a unanimous decision victory over fellow former title challenger Paulo Costa. He owns an 8-3 record in the UFC.
UFC 275 is expected to be headlined by two title fights - light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira against Jiri Prochazka and flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko versus Taila Santos.
