Amosov grinds out Lima to win Bellator welterweight title

Lucas Noonan / Bellator

There is a new king in the Bellator welterweight division.

Yaroslav Amosov defeated Douglas Lima via unanimous decision (50-45, 49-46, 49-46) in the Bellator 260 main event Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Amosov captured the 170-pound title with the victory.

Amosov scored takedowns and controlled Lima on the ground in all five rounds. Lima struggled to return to his feet and showed little urgency - even in the striking department - toward the end of the fight when he was clearly down on the scorecards.

With the victory, Amosov improved his professional record to 26-0. The 27-year-old is now 7-0 in Bellator.

Lima, who has held the welterweight belt on three separate occasions, is now riding a two-fight skid. In his previous bout, the 33-year-old Brazilian moved up to the middleweight division to take on Gegard Mousasi in an attempt to become a two-division champion.
