Cerrone won't retire despite latest loss: 'I'll never go out like this'
Donald Cerrone is adamant he'll return to the cage after suffering a first-round TKO loss to Alex Morono at UFC Fight Night this past weekend.
"Cowboy" admitted in November that he's getting close to retirement but said after Saturday's defeat that he won't hang up the gloves while on his current losing streak.
"No way, I'll never go out like this," Cerrone told ESPN's Brett Okamoto, adding, "I couldn't let my legacy end like this. I better call the boss man and say, 'Hey man, I know it's been a rough couple years. But when it's time, let me bow out right.'"
UFC president Dana White plans to schedule Cerrone for one more fight at 155 pounds and it'll "probably" be his last, White told Okamoto.
The 38-year-old is now riding a six-fight winless streak, which includes five losses - four of which were stoppages - and a no-contest. He hasn't been victorious since he fought Al Iaquinta in May 2019.
"I don't know what to answer you on, 'Is it that time?'" Cerrone said. "I don't know. I don't feel like it. But how I feel and how I perform are two different things. It sucks."
Cerrone didn't indicate how many more times he'll step into the cage, but the former title challenger said he'll "100%" know which fight is his retirement bout beforehand.
"It's definitely hard to break a streak, isn't it?" Cerrone said. "I need to break the damn streak because it's brutal, man."
