McGregor sexual assault case in Corsica dropped due to lack of evidence

An attempted sexual assault case against Conor McGregor in the French region of Corsica has been dropped due to a lack of evidence, TMZ Sports reports, citing officials and a letter from prosecutors.

In September 2020, police detained McGregor on allegations of attempted sexual assault and indecent exposure. He was interviewed and released without being formally arrested, and his team denied all wrongdoing.

Seven months later, prosecutors informed McGregor they won't press charges because their investigation didn't clearly establish "the facts or the circumstances of the facts of the proceedings." The evidence is therefore not sufficient to move forward with the case, prosecutors wrote in their letter.

Karen Kessler, McGregor's representative, told TMZ Sports that French authorities collected DNA during their investigation, and the "evidence confirmed McGregor's account."

The former UFC two-division champion has faced numerous legal issues in recent years, including two sexual assault investigations in his home country of Ireland. The status of those investigations is unclear.

McGregor, the biggest star in mixed martial arts, is set to meet Dustin Poirier in a trilogy bout at UFC 264 on July 10 in Las Vegas.
