McGregor: I accept Jan. 23 fight vs. Poirier
Conor McGregor said Wednesday he is open to fighting Dustin Poirier on Jan. 23 after all.
"My goal is to see this fight take place in Cowboys Stadium. Proper Style! Jerry Jones is a friend and the stadium can hold our crowd. I will be ready for Texas and Texas will be ready for my fans!" the former UFC two-division champion tweeted.
In late September, the UFC offered McGregor and Poirier a fight on the January pay-per-view card. McGregor agreed to the fight but demanded it instead take place at UFC 255 on Nov. 21 or UFC 256 on Dec. 12.
Dana White said earlier Wednesday the promotion wouldn't be able to budge on the date.
"We offered (McGregor) a fight, we got him his own date," the UFC president said. "We didn't have a date this year. We have everything laid out for this year, with world champions fighting for titles."
McGregor's latest condition for the Poirier fight appears to be that it takes place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which has a capacity of 80,000. White has long talked about hosting a UFC event at the venue, but it's never come to fruition.
Texas will be allowing fans at combat sports events starting later in October, according to MMA Junkie's Nolan King, which would make AT&T Stadium a viable destination for McGregor's next bout.
McGregor also hinted he will face boxing legend Manny Pacquiao after the Poirier fight. McGregor's manager said in September the former UFC champ was in serious talks to meet Pacquiao in a boxing match.
McGregor hasn't stepped into the Octagon since his January win over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246.
