Following his dominant win over Robbie Lawler at UFC Newark, Colby Covington's attention has shifted to a potential welterweight title fight against champion Kamaru Usman.

"My business and focus is on retiring Kamaru Usman," Covington told theScore. "That's all I care about right now. I'm already back in the gym and doing a little light running and pads. I'll get back to hard training within the next couple of weeks."

Covington (15-1) fought Lawler this past Saturday while Usman was still recovering from injuries suffered in his UFC 235 title victory over Tyron Woodley in March. That same weekend, the "Nigerian Nightmare" nearly came to blows with Covington at a casino, which is why this potential matchup has become personal.

"This is the first fight where I've really wanted to kill a guy," Covington added of Usman. "You're obviously going to see a dead body when I fight him in the Octagon. That's if he shows up, we all know 'Marty Fake Newsman' don't want to fight me. We know that he's ducked me and he’s been faking this narrative about him being (in) hernia surgery for eight months or whatever. Sitting on the sidelines, when it only takes four-to-six weeks to get healthy."

Usman told theScore in July that he wants to defend his title before the year ends, so the UFC 244 card in New York during November seems like the perfect situation. Covington said he's open to that date or to a potential fight in Las Vegas in December if more time is needed.

"I only want 'Marty Fake Newsman,' so if it's got to be Vegas in December that’s good a place to go too," Covington said. "I love Vegas - it's the fight capital of the world. ... It gives me a little bit more time to get this eye healed and get a little vacation.”
