Report: UFC working on Edgar vs. Swanson rematch for Atlantic City card

Jerome Miron / USA TODAY Sports

Frankie Edgar isn't wasting any time getting back on the proverbial horse.

The UFC is targeting a featherweight rematch between the New Jersey native and Cub Swanson for April 21 at UFC Fight Night 128 in Atlantic City, sources told ESPN's Brett Okamoto on Tuesday.

Edgar submitted Swanson in the fifth round of their first meeting in November 2014, and returns to action just seven weeks after suffering his first knockout loss to Brian Ortega at UFC 222. He'd been previously scheduled to challenge featherweight champ Max Holloway on the card, but opted to face Ortega on a month's notice when Holloway bowed out with an ankle injury. Swanson, meanwhile, takes the Octagon at Boardwalk Hall with a new contract after fighting out his previous deal in a gamble Ortega made him rue with a second-round tapout at UFC Fight Night 123 in December.

The 36-year-old Edgar and Swanson saw two- and four-fight win streaks snapped in their respective losses to Ortega.

Lightweight contenders Edson Barboza and Kevin Lee will clash in the bill's closer.
