Burns vs. Vannata made official for UFC Glendale

A lightweight clash of styles has been added to UFC on FOX 29.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Gilbert Burns will square off with Lando Vannata on April 14 at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Ariz., the UFC announced Friday.

Burns had been scheduled to face Olivier Aubin-Mercier at UFC on FOX 28 last month, but was yanked from the matchup during fight week over safety concerns related to his weight cut. The 31-year-old has alternated wins and losses over his last five bouts, most recently scoring a second-round KO of Jason Saggo at UFC Fight Night 116 in September. His promotional record sits at 5-2.

Vannata's bottomless supply of fireworks has only translated to one win over four walks to the Octagon. He dropped a unanimous decision to David Teymur and fought Bobby Green to a split draw at UFC 209 and 216, respectively, after treating John Makdessi to a first-round knockout in December 2016.

Lightweights Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje will meet in the bill's main event.
