Report: Columbus Crew considering ex-USMNT coach Arena as GM

The Columbus Crew are reportedly considering former United States head coach Bruce Arena for the club's general manager position, sources told ESPN's Jeff Carlisle.

A new GM - and head coach - is needed at the Ohian franchise after Gregg Berhalter's appointment as the U.S. men's national team's new bench boss. Berhalter had held the dual role of GM and head coach at the Crew for the last five years.

Arena last coached with the USMNT from 2016-17, leaving the position after the squad's disastrous defeat to Trinidad and Tobago in October 2017.

Despite that recent ignominy, the 67-year-old is one of the most decorated MLS managers in history, having won two MLS Cups with D.C. United in the late 1990s and a further three with the LA Galaxy in the first half of this decade.

Meanwhile, current possibilities for the Crew's head coaching position include Columbus assistant coach Josh Wolff and ex-Portland Timbers manager Caleb Porter.
