Boston Red Sox starter Walker Buehler didn't mince words after allowing seven runs in Friday night's 9-6 loss to the New York Yankees.

"This organization put a lot of faith in me this offseason, and I've been f-----g embarrassing for us," he said after lasting just two innings, according to Christopher Smith of MassLive.

Buehler hasn't yet lived up to the one-year contract worth a little more than $21 million the Red Sox gave him in the offseason. He owns a 5.18 ERA and 1.44 WHIP through his first 10 outings.

The righty's struggles have intensified over his past two starts, during which he's allowed 17 hits, including four home runs. Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Anthony Volpe took him deep Friday in the Yankees' five-run first inning.

"It’s tough,” Buehler said. "It’s obviously a big game and a big rivalry that I was excited to be a part of. And for it to go the way that it did is super disappointing, especially after the past two, three weeks of kind of prep and throwing and all that kinda shit and how I’m feeling. Physically I feel great and for it to happen that way, it sucks."

Buehler came to Boston after seven years with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Injuries limited him to just 75 1/3 innings in 2024, but he shined in the playoffs for the eventual World Series champions.

The 30-year-old holds a career 3.39 ERA and 1.11 WHIP.
