Tigers' Báez open to playing any position: 'I'll do whatever'
Javier Báez is willing to play anywhere on the diamond if it gives the Detroit Tigers a better chance to win.
Báez made his first career start in center field during Monday's win over the San Diego Padres. The 32-year-old has also made appearances at shortstop and third base this season.

"We're here to help the team," Báez said, according to MLB.com's Jason Beck. "Everybody's available to help the team. There's many times here to play different positions, and we have a lot of guys that can do it. If I can stay healthy, I'll do whatever, man. I can even catch if you need me."
Báez is in the fourth season of a six-year, $140-million contract signed ahead of the 2022 campaign. The two-time All-Star has dropped his strikeout rate to start the season but has yet to hit a home run and owns a .639 OPS in 18 games.
