Dipoto 'excited' about Mariners heading into 2025

Seattle Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto is happy with how his roster is shaping up as the 2025 season inches closer.

"We're still open if the opportunity to add exists out there, but we feel like this is a good team, and if this is our team going into spring training or opening day, we're pretty excited by it," Dipoto said Monday, according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times.

The Mariners have had a relatively quiet offseason, bringing back veteran infielder Jorge Polanco and signing Donovan Solano to a one-year deal.

Seattle finished the 2024 campaign with an 85-77 record, missing out on the postseason for a second consecutive year.

"It's been a pretty quiet offseason, and I think that's reflective of a team that didn't have a whole lot of holes to fill," Dipoto said.

Seattle still boasts one of baseball's deepest pitching staffs. Dipoto acknowledged other clubs showed interest in acquiring a starting pitcher earlier in the offseason.

"We did have some conversation around our pitchers, particularly when there were so many phone calls coming in right around the time of the winter meetings, but you know, it was always our desire to get to opening day with the five," Dipoto said.

The Mariners are currently expected to begin the season with a rotation that features Logan Gilbert, Luis Castillo, George Kirby, Bryce Miller, and Bryan Woo.
