The San Diego Padres have had trade conversations involving star right-hander Dylan Cease, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Cease is entering his final season under team control and is projected to earn $13.7 million in 2025, according to MLB Trade Rumors.

There's been no indication that a deal involving Cease is close, with sources telling Acee that talks have varied in seriousness.

The Baltimore Orioles are among the clubs eyeing Cease, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, who adds the pitcher could be a viable option for the team with ace Corbin Burnes likely heading elsewhere in free agency.

The Boston Red Sox are also showing interest in acquiring Cease, Morosi reports.

The Padres acquired Cease from the Chicago White Sox for four players in March. The 28-year-old went 14-11 with a 3.47 ERA and 224 strikeouts across 189 1/3 innings. The highlight of the season came on July 25 when Cease tossed the first no-hitter of his career in a 3-0 victory over the Washington Nationals.

The Padres are currently projected to enter the 2025 campaign with a rotation that includes Cease, Michael King, Yu Darvish, Randy Vásquez, and Matt Waldron.
