The Tampa Bay Rays and veteran catcher Danny Jansen agreed to a one-year contract worth $8.5 million, sources told FanSided's Robert Murray.
Jansen is no stranger to the AL East, spending parts of the first seven seasons of his career with the Toronto Blue Jays before a trade to the Boston Red Sox in July.
The 29-year-old will likely form a catching tandem with Ben Rortvedt in Tampa Bay.
Jansen struggled offensively in 2024, registering an 87 OPS+ with nine home runs and 24 RBIs in 92 games. He was excellent at blocking pitches behind the plate but struggled to throw runners out and frame pitches.
Jansen's best season came in 2022 when he hit 15 home runs with 44 RBIs and an .855 OPS in 248 plate appearances.
