2025 MLB Draft lottery odds: Marlins, Rockies have best shot at No. 1 pick
The Miami Marlins and Colorado Rockies will have the best odds (22.45%) at landing the No. 1 pick in the 2025 MLB Draft next summer.
Implemented ahead of the 2023 draft, every MLB team that misses the postseason - with some exceptions - has a shot at receiving the top pick in the next draft via a lottery system. The lottery determines the first six picks, with the remaining teams then drafting in reverse order of their 2024 winning percentage.
The Chicago White Sox are ineligible to pick higher than 10th despite finishing with 121 losses due to MLB's rules preventing non-revenue sharing teams to receive a lottery pick in consecutive drafts. The White Sox selected Hagen Smith with the No. 5 pick in 2024.
The Oakland Athletics will pick 11th because of the same rules.
One of the Atlanta Braves, New York Mets, or Arizona Diamondbacks will find themselves in the draft lottery depending on the results of Monday's doubleheader between the Braves and Mets.
The Boston Red Sox, Rockies, Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, and Toronto Blue Jays have never had the first pick.
The draft lottery is expected to take place in December.
