The Baltimore Orioles placed starter Zach Eflin on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation, the team announced Tuesday.

Eflin, acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in late July, has been excellent in his brief tenure with the Orioles. Since joining the team, the right-hander has won all four of his starts while posting a 2.13 ERA and 1.03 WHIP.

Baltimore recalled young lefty Cade Povich in the corresponding roster shuffle, but the club remains hopeful Eflin be out too long.

“We're optimistic that he's gonna be able to not miss much time after the IL, if any," Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told MASN's Roch Kubatko. "But yeah, it's a big loss. He's pitched great for us, but hopefully, we'll have him in September.”

Pitching injuries continue to mount for the Orioles, with Eflin joining starters Kyle Bradish, Grayson Rodriguez, John Means, and Tyler Wells on the injured list. The bullpen remains similarly depleted without closer Félix Bautista, Danny Coulombe, and Jacob Webb.

Despite the injuries, Baltimore entered Tuesday with a 73-53 record and a half-game behind the New York Yankees for the top spot in the AL East.
