Report: Mets plan to meet with Severino
The New York Mets are among the teams showing interest in free-agent right-hander Luis Severino and plan to meet with him in the near future, sources told The Athletic's Will Sammon.
Severino is no stranger to pitching in New York City, spending all eight seasons of his career so far with the Yankees.
The 29-year-old struggled mightily in 2023, posting a 4-8 record with a career-worst 6.65 ERA and 79 strikeouts across 89 1/3 innings.
Severino is a two-time All-Star and finished as a finalist for AL Cy Young in 2017 after registering a 2.98 ERA with 230 strikeouts over 31 starts.
The Mets are currently projected to enter the 2024 campaign with a starting rotation featuring NL Rookie of the Year finalist Kodai Senga, José Quintana, Tylor Megill, Joey Lucchesi, and José Butto.
