Trout homers in 7th straight game, 1 shy of MLB record

Mike Trout is at it once again.

The Los Angeles Angels superstar is now one game away from tying the all-time MLB record for consecutive contests with a homer after crushing a game-tying two-run shot off Cleveland Guardians lefty Konnor Pilkington in the fifth inning on Monday.

If the three-time MVP manages to tie the record, he will join Ken Griffey Jr., Don Mattingly, and Dale Long as the only players to homer in eight straight games.

Trout also became the second right-handed hitter in MLB history to homer in seven straight games. Kevin Mench is the only other righty hitter to manage seven straight games with a homer, which he did as a member of the Texas Rangers in 2006.

Other players with a seven-game streak include Barry Bonds, Kendrys Morales, Jim Thome, and Joey Votto.

The Angels continue their three-game set against the Guardians on Tuesday. Right-hander Cody Morris is the probable starter for Cleveland. Trout and Morris have never faced each other.
