The Milwaukee Brewers designated outfielder Lorenzo Cain for assignment, the club announced on Saturday.

The 36-year-old described the outcome as a mutual decision after a meeting with Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns and manager Craig Counsell, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.

Cain reflected on his baseball journey as the decision came on the day he reached 10 years of MLB service time.

"To say that I've played 10-plus years in the show ... I couldn't ask for anything more," Cain said, according to McCalvy.

"It's been a great ride for me. A fun ride. I put a lot of work in. Put this body through a lot through the years. At the same time, I think the body is definitely ready to rest a little bit."

The former Gold Glove winner is in the final season of a five-year, $80-million contract he signed with the Brewers in 2018.

Cain was struggling mightily in 2022, hitting .179/.231/.234 with one home run, 17 runs scored, and nine RBIs across 43 games.
