Report: Story's market heating up; Rockies also taking Gray offers
The Colorado Rockies' sell-off is quickly accelerating ahead of Friday's trade deadline.
All-Star shortstop Trevor Story's market has picked up significantly in the last 24 hours, sources told Jon Morosi of MLB.com.
The New York Yankees - who reportedly made Colorado an offer - and San Francisco Giants are among the most interested suitors for the pending free agent. The Milwaukee Brewers have also been linked to the 29-year-old.
Additionally, Colorado is listening to offers for right-hander Jon Gray, reports Morosi.
The Giants, San Diego Padres, and Philadelphia Phillies are three teams showing interest in Gray, sources told Morosi. But while talks are ongoing, no deal is close and his market may not take full shape until three-time Cy Young winner Max Scherzer is traded.
Gray has spent his entire seven-year career with the Rockies and has given them several solid campaigns despite the unfavorable pitching environment in Denver. This season, the 29-year-old owns a 3.67 ERA, 4.20 FIP, and 1.22 WHIP with 91 strikeouts and 40 walks across 18 starts. He's also bucked the trend for Rockies pitchers and owns better splits at Coors Field than on the road.
Like Story, Gray will be a free agent at season's end. He's earning just $6 million this year.
