Oakland Athletics first baseman Matt Olson was a late scratch from Thursday's starting lineup against the Tampa Bay Rays after a liner he hit into an L screen net ricocheted into his eye during batting practice, manager Bob Melvin said, according to ESPN.

X-rays on Olson came back negative and he has no broken bones, Melvin added. There's no indication if Olson will be placed on the injured list.

"Depends on when the eye decides to open up," teammate Matt Chapman said after Thursday's game. "That thing is sealed shut right now."

The 27-year-old Olson is off to a tremendous start for the A's, hitting .296/.363/.580 with six home runs, five doubles, and 17 RBIs.

He's started 22 of Oakland's 25 games this season.

Mitch Moreland replaced Olson in the lineup.
