The Chicago Cubs have signed right-handed reliever Ryan Tepera to a one-year, $800,000 contract, Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago reports.

Tepera posted a 3.92 ERA and 1.40 WHIP across 20 2/3 innings during his first campaign with the Cubs in 2020.

The 33-year-old received a down-ballot MVP vote last season, which raised eyebrows until St. Louis Cardinals beat writer Rick Hummel admitted he accidentally gave Tepera a vote intended for Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner.

The good-humored Tepera took the error in stride.
