The New York Yankees acquired outfielder Greg Allen from the San Diego Padres in exchange for left-handed reliever James Reeves, the team announced Thursday.

Allen, 27, appeared in one game for the Padres in 2020 after being dealt by the Cleveland Indians alongside right-hander Mike Clevinger at the trade deadline. The Padres designated Allen for assignment last week.

Allen has hit .239/.298/.343 with eight home runs and 32 stolen bases in 221 games over four seasons.

With Aaron Judge, Clint Frazier, Aaron Hicks, Giancarlo Stanton, and Mike Tauchman under contract, Allen will likely serve as a depth piece.

Reeves, drafted by the Yankees in the 10th round in 2015, has yet to reach the majors. The 27-year-old notched a 1.87 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with an 11.1 K/9 across two minor-league levels in 2019.
