The Chicago White Sox have called up highly touted infield prospect Nick Madrigal, the team announced Friday.

Madrigal, the fourth overall pick in the 2018 draft, will make his debut by batting ninth in Friday night's game against the Kansas City Royals.

The 23-year-old rose quickly through Chicago's ranks, playing across three levels of minor-league ball in 2019. He finished the season in Triple-A where he slashed .331/.398/.424 with one home run, 12 RBIs, and four stolen bases in 29 games.

Madrigal is also a contact machine. Throughout his minor-league tenure, he only struck out in 2.98% of his plate appearances.

With the White Sox, he'll slot in alongside shortstop Tim Anderson, third baseman Yoan Moncada, and first baseman Jose Abreu to complete a formidable-looking infield.

Entering the season, MLB Pipeline ranked Madrigal fourth among White Sox prospects behind Luis Robert, Andrew Vaughn, and Michael Kopech. Robert opened the season on the MLB roster.

In a corresponding move, the White Sox designated right-handed reliever Kelvin Herrera for assignment.
