Former All-Star Preston Wilson fires back at Hershiser over Astros quip

Broadcaster Orel Hershiser made a mostly harmless quip after Jose Altuve took a fastball down the middle for a strikeout - alluding to Houston's sign-stealing scandal - during Wednesday's game between the Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers.

But Hershiser's former opponent Preston Wilson didn't find the remark so harmless, implying the former Cy Young winner may have altered the baseball during his 18-year tenure.

"I faced Orel when he pitched for the (New York) Mets, and everyone knew the way his pitches moved was not normal," Wilson tweeted Thursday. "Our whole team knew it, so does he. The worst part was he had the audacity to send bibles over to clubhouse (autographed if I remember correctly). Maybe not the best messenger."

Wilson, 46, is a former All-Star and was a member of the Astros during the 2006 season. The outfielder was released by Houston midseason and signed by the St. Louis Cardinals, where he won his first and only ring before ending his 10-year career the following season.
