Mets add veteran reliever Jared Hughes
The New York Mets agreed to terms with veteran right-handed reliever Jared Hughes on Tuesday, the team announced.
It's a one-year, major-league deal with an annual salary of $700,000, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. Prorated over a shortened 60-game season, Hughes is slated to make approximately $260,000, DiComo adds.
Hughes, 34, has made appearances with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers, and, most recently, Philadelphia Phillies over his nine-year career. Hughes was also a non-roster invite to Houston Astros camp this past spring.
The right-hander appeared in 72 games last year between the Reds and Phillies, posting a 4.04 ERA and 5.29 FIP over 71 1/3 innings.
Hughes joins a bullpen that is set to include Edwin Diaz, Jeurys Familia, Seth Lugo, and Dellin Betances during the shortened 60-game season, barring any opt outs.
