The Yomiuri Giants called off a preseason game against the Seibu Lions on Wednesday after two of their players tested positive for COVID-19, the team announced, according to Kyodo News.
Giants shortstop Hayato Sakamoto and catcher Takumi Oshiro tested positive. Sakamoto was the Central League's MVP in 2019.
Neither player is considered to pose a high risk to others, the club said, and there are no indications the Nippon Professional Baseball league's regular season will be further postponed.
The league is scheduled to restart on June 19 in empty stadiums after its season was suspended for over two months because of the coronavirus pandemic.
