Nationals cancel virtual ring ceremony but will reveal design

The Washington Nationals won't hold their virtual World Series ring ceremony on Sunday after consulting with players, who want to receive the rings when they can be together physically, the team announced Saturday.

However, the club still plans to unveil the design of the rings, screen a documentary about the 2019 season, and chat with players such as Ryan Zimmerman, Howie Kendrick, and Max Scherzer through video.

The Nationals were originally planning to give out the jewelry through a virtual ceremony to adhere to social distancing rules, and because fans likely won't be able to attend games if the 2020 campaign starts. The planned ceremony would have been pretaped, with only a few select members of the team receiving their rings and the rest having to wait, sources told Brittany Ghiroli of The Athletic.

Washington defeated the Houston Astros in seven games last season to win its first championship.
