Bauer out on revenue sharing: 'Let me market the game,' not Manfred

Count Trevor Bauer among the vocal detractors of the MLB's reported preference for revenue sharing in 2020.

The Cincinnati Reds right-hander and his agent Rachel Luba released a video on Wednesday discussing the reported proposal for the 2020 season formulated by the owners on Monday. In Bauer's tweet linking to the video, the pitcher called the entire plan "laughable."

While neither Bauer nor Luba had seen the proposal, they offered their opinions on details that have leaked, including a plan for a 50-50 revenue split between the owners and players.

"It's never been done in baseball," Bauer said during his video with Luba. "It's not collectively bargained; it would just be for this season. It just doesn't sit well with me."

Even further, the former All-Star doesn't believe in the commissioner's ability to market the game in a way that would maximize revenue for both sides.

"If I'm going to have to trust my salary to Rob Manfred marketing the game to make more money for the game, I am out on that. Let me market the game. Then we'll all make more money."

Bauer's comments come two months after the 29-year-old had a one-on-one meeting with Manfred to discuss, in part, a newly proposed playoff format, which Bauer called "absurd." Afterward, Bauer said he had a "productive conversation" with the commissioner.
