The Toronto Blue Jays are among the teams interested in free-agent catcher Yasmani Grandal and recently met with the Cuban backstop, reports ESPN's Marly Rivera.

News of Toronto's interest in Grandal comes one day after a rival executive told Ben Nicholson-Smith and Shi Davidi of Sportsnet the Blue Jays have discussed trading catchers Danny Jansen and Reese McGuire to acquire starting pitching.

Grandal is the top free agent available at his position following an All-Star campaign with the Milwaukee Brewers. He slashed .246/.380/.468 with 28 home runs, 26 doubles, and 77 RBIs in 153 games in 2019.

The 31-year-old was also solid defensively, finishing second in MLB behind J.T. Realmuto in FanGraphs defense, and is considered one of the best pitch framers in baseball.

Grandal isn't attached to draft-pick compensation this season after he refused the qualifying offer extended to him by the Los Angeles Dodgers last offseason.
