The 2019 National League wild-card game will take place in the nation's capital.

With their 92nd win of the season on Saturday, the Washington Nationals earned the right to host the one-game playoff on Oct. 1 against either the Milwaukee Brewers or St. Louis Cardinals. It marks the first time a wild-card game will ever be held at Nationals Park.

Since Major League Baseball implemented the wild-card game in 2012, the home team in the NL has gone 2-7, with the road team winning four of the last five times. Washington is 49-31 at home this season, while St Louis and Milwaukee are each one game over .500 on the road.

The Nationals announced Friday that Max Scherzer will start. The three-time Cy Young winner owns a 3.73 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 82 postseason innings.
