Stroman: 'Extremely frustrated and kind of angered' with recent starts

New York Mets right-hander Marcus Stroman isn't pitching well. And he knows it.

The All-Star allowed a season-high 10 hits Saturday in a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. He now owns a 5.05 ERA with the Mets since being acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays at the end of July.

"I just need to be better, to be honest with you," Stroman said, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. "No one puts more pressure on me than myself, so I'm extremely frustrated and kind of angered."

The 28-year-old is confident that he can regain the form that saw him post a 2.96 ERA in 21 starts with Toronto to begin the season.

"I've been through plenty of rough patches in my career, and I feel like I'm always able to come out on the other side," Stroman said. "At the end of the day, one bad outing is not going to discourage me as a starter.

"So I look forward to the adversity, and getting through this, and being where I was."

Mets manager Mickey Callaway knows that Stroman can turn it around.

"He obviously has elite talent," Callaway said. "He's done it before. He will. He just needs to find it right now."

New York traded pitching prospects Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods-Richardson in exchange for Stroman. Kay made his Blue Jays debut Saturday and struck out eight while allowing two earned runs against the Tampa Bay Rays. Woods-Richardson, meanwhile, has posted a 2.54 ERA across 28 1/3 innings in Single-A.
