Edwin likes Yankees' lineup: 'We're going to hit a lot of homers'

In addition to a metric ton of power, the New York Yankees acquired extra confidence in the form of first baseman/designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion.

Speaking for the first time as a member of the Yankees, Encarnacion expressed his excitement to be joining a lineup that will eventually feature healthy sluggers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

"We're going to hit a lot of homers and win a lot of games, too," Encarnacion said, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

Despite a weakened lineup for most of the season, the Yankees' 111 home runs currently rank eighth in the majors, and now they've added the AL leader in long balls.

With Stanton rejoining the club Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays, the club will take another step toward full strength. Encarnacion likes the team's chances going forward.

"Coming to a winning team that is on its way to make the playoffs, that's why we play - to win," he said, according to Hoch.

In 65 games with the Seattle Mariners before Saturday's trade, Encarnacion hit .241/.356/.531 with 21 home runs and 49 RBIs and is on pace to eclipse 30 homers for the eighth consecutive campaign.

Encarnacion makes his Yankees debut Monday at DH. He's batting fifth, in between catcher Gary Sanchez and shortstop Didi Gregorius.
