The Mighty Thor is going to need a rest.

New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard was placed on the injured list after suffering a hamstring injury Saturday, manager Mickey Callaway told reporters Sunday, according to SNY. The team later announced the move.

The 26-year-old limped off the field during his start against the St. Louis Cardinals in the seventh inning.

Syndergaard, who was initially diagnosed with a right hamstring strain, will undergo an MRI on Sunday to determine the full extent of his injury, Callaway said.

The pitcher joins an injured list that already contains Jed Lowrie (knee), Brandon Nimmo (neck), Justin Wilson (elbow), and Yoenis Cespedes (heels).

Callaway wouldn't confirm who would take Syndergaard's spot in the Mets' rotation but did mention that pitching prospect Anthony Kay - who's posted a 1.49 ERA at Double-A - won't be his replacement.

Syndergaard is in the midst of a down year, authoring a 4.55 ERA in 15 starts with a career-low K/9 rate of 8.8.

In a corresponding move, second baseman Robinson Cano was activated from the IL. The veteran was moved from his customary three-spot in the batting order to the five-hole for Sunday's game.

Cano hit the IL on June 9 with a left quad strain and will have his workload monitored, Callaway added.
